The Arctic Gold Distillery
Gaupne - Sogn Og Fjordane, Norway
30 years in the future, the climate has continued to change in Norway, three berry species are vulnerable to extinction due to their change of climate. The project involves a ‘re-homing’ strategy to determine the best farm location in Norway where all 3 berries can flourish, using their specific climate requirements such as temperature and precipitation. The site was determined by a series of analysis, examining the temperature, precipitation, hours of sunlight and typography heights across the Sogn Og Fjordane region in Norway.
The Cloudberry is the most valuable of all 3 berries, it is perceived as the ‘Gold of the North’ and is illegal to pick in Norway if unripe. It is produced into a liquor, important to Norweigan culture and a primary export. The ‘re-homing’ strategy will also protect and enhance this Cloudberry liquor industry. A new brand of Cloudberry liquor ‘Arctic Gold’ will be distilled onsite, using the farm for its source of Cloudberries. The micro distillery will be the primary supply of Cloudberry liquor within Norway, including an ‘Arctic Gold’ bar attracting visitors and tourists.
