The
Haze Harvester Project
Isle
of Scilly, Tresco Island, UK
The proposal is a sustainably built, modular hub that supports the storage, construction and release of fog-catching units. These units are deployed across the South of Tresco Island to mitigate the effects of saltwater fog. This Fog is responsible for the over saturation of soil as well as saline incursion into freshwater pools.
The fog-catchers work to capture moisture and salt. The salt is taken from the environment's atmosphere and processed to be used as insulation in offshore wind farms. The water is processed and used in greenhouses to repopulate the landscape with freshwater flora and increase the local biodiversity.
The project is being trialled on the South of Tresco Island, but it has the scope to be deployed to any islands or locations that require protection from saline atmosphere.
